1. There are no nice beaches on the island

This is a very common myth that I read in almost every post about Santorini before traveling here. Before we came here, I knew there was only one black sand beach. Well, we found several beautiful beaches, some even with beautiful azure water. Our favorite beaches include Red beach and also the less accessible beach on Capo Colombo. Both of these beaches were unique and surrounded by amazing cliffs.

1.  Na ostrove nie sú pekné pláže

Toto je veľmi častý mýtus, ktorý som pred cestou sem, čítala skoro v každom príspevku o Santorini.

Predtým než sme sem prišli som vedela, že je tu len jedná pláž s čiernym pieskom. No našli sme viacero krásnych pláži, niektoré dokonca s krásnou azúrovou vodou. Medzi naše obľúbené pláže patrí Red beach a tiež menej prístupná pláž na Capo Colombo. Obe tieto pláže boli jedinečné a obklopené úžasnými útesmi. 

2. Santorini is too small an island for a week's vacation

When I was ordering tickets, I thought a lot about whether it was not too long a time for such a small island. Well, as usual, the week passed incredibly fast and in the end, we wanted to be able to stay for at least a few more days. Because even we though it is a very small island, it offers a lot. We wanted to see as much as possible, but even after a week, there are still many places we did not have time to visit. So don't make that mistake and try to find as much time as possible to discover this amazing place.

2. Santorini je príliš malý ostrov na týždňovú dovolenku

Keď som objednávala letenky, veľmi som uvažovala o tom, či to nie je príliš dlhá doba na tak malý ostrov. No ako to už býva, týždeň nám ubehol neskutočne rýchlo a nakoniec sme chceli aby sme mohli ostať ešte pár dní. Pretože aj keď je to veľmi malý ostrov, ponúka naozaj veľa. Chceli sme vidieť čo najviac, ale aj po týždni je stále mnoho miest, ktoré sme nestihli navštíviť. Takže nesprav tú chybu a skús si nájsť čo najviac času na objavovanie tohto úžasného miesta. 

 

3. It will be very expensive

This is probably the most common myth circulating about Santorini. But as in any destination, you can travel on a low budget, which we prove. We managed it for about 100 € / day for two, but it is definitely cheaper.

3. Bude to veľmi drahé

Toto je asi najčastejší mýtus, ktorý koluje o Santorini. No tak ako v každej destinácií aj tu sa dá cestovať s nízkym rozpočtom, čoho sme dôkazom. Nám sa to podarilo približne za 100€/deň pre dvoch, ale určite to ide aj lacnejšie. 

Oia is probably the most famous city in Santorini, which is in every photo of this island. And it really is a very romantic place, but it should be noted that in most photos it is not shown how very crowded is it with tourists. It was a really big disappointment for us. But when we decided to visit it very early in the morning, it was the city from the photo and we immediately fell in love with it. We also experienced another disappointment here and the fact that it is not possible to get everywhere. Because most of the streets belong to hotels or restaurants and these are only for guests.

4. Oia je romantické miesto

Oia je asi najznámejšie mesto na Santorini, ktoré je na každej fotke tohto ostrova. Naozaj je veľmi romantickým miestom, ale treba si uvedomiť, že na väčšine fotiek nie je ukázané ako veľmi zvykne byť preplnené turistami. Pre nás to bolo naozaj veľkým sklamaním. No keď sme sa rozhodli ho navštíviť  skoro ráno, bolo to to mesto z fotografii a hneď sme si ho zamilovali. Tiež sme tu zažili ďalšie sklamanie a to, že sa nedá dostať všade. Pretože väčšina uličiek patrí hotelom alebo reštauráciám a tie sú len pre ubytovaných hostí. 

5. Transportation on the island is great

Before we came here, I read a lot of articles about Santorini and it was written everywhere that the buses run here in order and are new and air-conditioned. We wanted to try them twice, but even after an hour of waiting, none came. I don't know if it's just my Perissa experience or it's common. Therefore, we decided to rent a quad bike for 20 € / day, which gave us the freedom to explore the island whenever we wanted and we also got to places where buses do not go.

5. Doprava na ostrove je skvelá

Predtým než sme sem išli som si prečítala naozaj veľa článkov o Santorini a všade sa písalo, že autobusy tu jazdia podľa poriadku a sú nové a klimatizované. My sme ich chceli vyskúšať dvakrát, ale ani po hodine čakania žiaden neprišiel. Neviem či je to len moja skúsenosť z Perissy alebo je to bežné. Preto sme sa rozhodli požičať si štvorkolku za 20€/deň čo nám poskytlo voľnosť v objavovaní ostrova kedykoľvek sme chceli a dostali sme sa aj na miesta kam bežne autobusy nechodia.

6. There is nothing inland

Only a few people know that Santorini has beautiful traditional villages inland. We only managed a few of them, but it was an amazing experience, as most were without tourists but as beautiful as everyone on the island. It was there that we felt the best and were able to appreciate the whole atmosphere of the place.

6. Vo vnútrozemí nie je nič

Málokto vie, že na Santorini sú krásne tradičné dedinky vo vnútrozemí. My sme ich stihli len pár, ale bola to úžasná skúsenosť. Väčšina miest bola bez turistov, ale rovnako krásna ako všetky na ostrove a práve tam sme sa cítili najlepšie a dokázali najviac oceniť celú atmosféru daného miesta.
