This year we also visited Bari and Polignano a Mare. Two wonderful places in Italy that you don´t hear about often. Flights to Bari cost us around 80 € / person / return ticket.
Bari
Bari is a larger city, divided into Old and New Town. There is also a beach on its edge. A resort that isn´t very frequent for a holiday of Slovaks. Usually, there are Italians or people from neighboring countries.
Bari je vƤÄÅ”ie mesto, ktorĆ© je rozdelenĆ© na StarĆ© a NovĆ© mesto. Na jeho okraji sa nachĆ”dza aj plĆ”Å¾. Letovisko, ktorĆ© nieje veľmi Äastou dovolenkou SlovĆ”kov. ZvyÄajne sem na dovolenky chodia Taliani, alebo ľudia z bližŔĆch krajĆn.
Old town / StarƩ mesto
Walking around old town, you can go quietly without a map. There are countless churches, historic homes, and there are two of the largest buildings that don't charm you just from the outside but also from the inside.
Do StarĆ©ho mesta, mĆ“Å¾te ĆsÅ„ kľudne bez mapy. Je tam nespoÄetne veľa kostolĆkov, historickĆ½ch obytnĆ½ch domov a pĆÅ”ia sa tam dve najvƤÄÅ”ie stavby, ktorĆ© ohĆŗria nielen krĆ”sou z vonku ale taktiež vnĆŗtri.
Basilica di San Nicola / Bazilika sv. Nikolasa
This basilica is located in the old city and it´s for free or for little donate but it depends on you. You need to have your arms and knees covered, even though they do not check for it at the entrance. In this basilica, you can also find underground catacombs that have enchanted us with their sophistication and beauty. Also, before you pick up here, you'll find out when mass is being done.
During our holiday, we also had the opportunity to see the Pope, who came to this Basilica.
TĆ”to bazilika sa nachĆ”dza v starom meste a vstup do vnĆŗtra si nezaplatĆte. Je potrebnĆ© dodržiavaÅ„ etiketu a maÅ„ zakrytĆ© ramenĆ” a kolenĆ”, aj napriek tomu, že to pri vstupe nekontrolujĆŗ. V tejto bazilike nĆ”jdete aj podzemnĆ© katakomby, ktorĆ© nĆ”s oÄarili svojou prepracovanosÅ„ou a krĆ”sou. Taktiež pred tĆ½m, než sa sem vyberiete, zistĆte si kedy sa konajĆŗ omÅ”e.
PoÄas naÅ”ej dovolenky sme mali možnosÅ„ vidieÅ„ aj PĆ”peža, ktorĆ½ zavĆtal prĆ”ve do tejto Baziliky.
Bari Cathedral/ KatedrƔla v Bari
The cathedral, which you can also find in the old town. It is beautiful outside and inside. You can also visit it for free. You will also find catacombs that are really beautiful and wander to see them. It is also appropriate to stick to the etiquette despite the fact that no one checked us at our entrance.
KatedrĆ”la, ktorĆŗ rovnako nĆ”jdete v starom meste. Je krĆ”sna zvonku aj zvnĆŗtra. Do vnĆŗtra sa dostanete taktiež zadarmo. NĆ”jdete tu aj katakomby, ktorĆ© sĆŗ naozaj krĆ”sne a oplatĆ sa ich pozrieÅ„. Taktiež je vhodnĆ© dodržiavaÅ„ etiketu aj napriek tomu, že pri naÅ”om vstupe nĆ”s nikto nekontroloval.
Castello Normanno-Svevo
You can find this castle while walking around the old town. It is a massive building and you can find many artworks or other pieces inside. We did not get there because we found this castle on the day before our departure.
Tento hrad nĆ”jdete poÄas prechĆ”dzky po starom meste. Je to mohutnĆ” stavba a vnĆŗtri nĆ”jdete mnohĆ© umeleckĆ© obrazy Äi inĆ© diela. My sme sa dnu nedostali, nakoľko sme tento hrad naÅ”li deÅ pred naÅ”Ćm odchodom.
New town and beach / NovĆ© mesto a plĆ”Å¾
In the new city, you will find many shops, restaurants and mainly gellateria (ice cream shops). You can also find here the famous brands and main shopping streets. We also found specialized "fast food" for sandwiches.
You are quick to find a city and you will not need a map soon. On the outskirts of the city is a long walk along the sea, from the old, through the new town to the beach on the outskirts of Bari.
V novom meste nĆ”jdete mnoho obchodov, reÅ”taurĆ”ciĆ a hlavne gellateriĆ(zmrzlinĆ”rni). NĆ”jdete tu znĆ”me znaÄky a hlavnejÅ”ie ulice na nĆ”kupy. My sme pri prechĆ”dzkach naÅ”li aj Å”pecializovanĆ© "fast foody" naprĆklad so sendviÄmi, kde bolo možnĆ© vyskladaÅ„ si sendviÄ.
V meste sa rĆ½chlo zorientujete a Äoskoro nebudete potrebovaÅ„ mapu. Na okraji mesta sa tiahne dlhĆ½ chodnĆk popri mori, ktorĆ½m sa dostanete od starĆ©ho, cez novĆ© mesto až ku plĆ”Å¾i na okraji Bari.
Beach near Bari / PlĆ”Å¾ pri Bari
If anyone asks where is the beach, anybody tells you there is no beach in Bari. The homeowners know this place like suburban. We were 3km away from this beach while we were in the city center. The buses go to the beach or you can go by foot. Although we thought it was 3km as a long way, we finally picked it up and the journey took us faster than we expected.
On this beach, you will find scrubs, buffets and various vendors. The big mistake is that there is no toilet at the beach or at the buffet. And if you looking for a shower at the beach, you will be disappointing.
We often met the Italians and the minimum number of tourists. During the week the beach was almost empty. This beach is sandy and in one place it is possible to cross the water along the knee to the breakwater, which was very interesting for us.
Ak sa kohokoľvek spĆ½tate na plĆ”Å¾, povie vĆ”m, že v Bari plĆ”Å¾ nieje. DomĆ”ci tĆŗto ÄasÅ„ Bari berĆŗ skĆ“r ako okrajovĆŗ alebo ako predmestie. My sme od tejto plĆ”Å¾e boli vzdialenĆ© 3km priÄom sme bĆ½vali v centre mesta. Na plĆ”Å¾ chodia autobusy, alebo sa mĆ“Å¾te prejsÅ„. Napriek tomu, že sa nĆ”m zdalo 3km ako dlhĆ” cesta, nakoniec sme sa peÅ”o vybrali a cesta nĆ”m zbehla rĆ½chlejÅ”ie než by sme Äakali.
Na tejto plĆ”Å¾i nĆ”jdete kabĆnky na prezleÄenie, bufety a rĆ“znych predajcov. Veľkou chybou je, že na plĆ”Å¾i ani v bufete sa nenachĆ”dza zĆ”chod. Taktiež by ste tu mĆ”rne hľadali sprchy.
Äasto sme tam stretĆ”vali domĆ”cich Talianov a minimum turistov. PoÄas tĆ½Å¾dÅa bola plĆ”Å¾ skoro Ćŗplne prĆ”zdna. TĆ”to plĆ”Å¾ je pieskovĆ” a na jednom mieste je možnĆ© s vodou po kolenĆ” prejsÅ„ až k vlnolamu, Äo bolo pre nĆ”s veľmi zaujĆmavĆ©.
Polignano a Mare
We went to Polignano by train about 20 minutes from Bari. In Bari, we started at Bari Centrale and stood on Polignano a Mare (Do not forget to buy the ticket in the slot machines on the platform). After we reach the Polignan station, we looked for the map, which is right in front of the station. According to this map, we were orientated and got down to the beach.
We spent 2 days in Polignano. One day we spent most of the time on the beach and later we went to the old town for lunch. The next day we spent a little more walking and admiring the historic center.
Do Polignana sme iÅ”li vlakom priblžne 20minĆŗt od Bari. V Bari sme nastĆŗpili na zastĆ”vke Bari Centrale a vystupovali na Polignano a Mare (Nezabudnite si zakĆŗpenĆ½ lĆstok Å”tiknuÅ„ v automatoch na nĆ”stupiÅ”ti). Po vystĆŗpenĆ na stanici v Polignane, sme sa pozreli na mapu, ktorĆ” je hneÄ pred stanicou. Podľa tejto mapy sme sa zorientovali a dostali až dole ku plĆ”Å¾i.
V Polignane sme strĆ”vili 2dni. Jeden deÅ sme strĆ”vili vƤÄÅ”inu Äasu na plĆ”Å¾i a neskĆ“r sme sa preÅ”li do starĆ©ho mesta na obed. DruhĆ½ deÅ sme venovali o trochu viac chodeniu a obdivovaniu historickĆ©ho centra.
Beach in Polignano a Mare / PlĆ”Å¾ v Polignano a Mare
This beach is beautiful, but more touristy. It is a really small beach in the bay, where don´t need to be many people but it still looks full. The disadvantage of this beach is a stone surface, which is not good for sunbathing but also harder to enter the sea.
Sea is beautiful and also offers some insights into the "caves" created by time. We have a calm day and a lot of people here one day. The second day we met there fewer people because the sea was rough and it was not possible to go swimming.
TĆ”to plĆ”Å¾ je nĆ”dhernĆ”, no viac turistickĆ”. Je to pomerne malĆ” plĆ”Å¾ v zĆ”toke, kde nemusĆ byÅ„ veľa ľudĆ no stĆ”le vyzerĆ” plno. NevĆ½hodou tejto plĆ”Å¾e je kamenistĆ½ povrch, kvĆ“li ktorĆ©mu sa nielen zle leÅ¾Ć na plĆ”Å¾i, ale taktiež Å„ažŔie vchĆ”dza do mora.
More je krĆ”sne a ponĆŗka aj pĆ”r nĆ”hľadov do "jaskĆ½Å" vytvorenĆ½ch Äasom. My sme tu jeden deÅ vystihli kľudnĆŗ hladinu a veľa ľudĆ. DruhĆ½ deÅ sme tu ľudĆ stretli menej, no more bolo poriadne rozbĆŗrenĆ© a nedalo sa vĆ“jsÅ„ dnu.
Old town / StarƩ mesto
Polignano is a beautiful city that spreads over a large rock. Along the edge of this city, you can see unforgettable views of the waves that are charging into this rock. In the old town, is typically Italian. You will find many narrow aisles, outfitted linen and also typical residential houses. In this old town, we met a lot of nice people, we had a tasty meal and enjoyed the beauty we see.
Polignano je nĆ”dhernĆ© mesto, ktorĆ© sa rozprestiera na veľkej skale. Popri okraji tohto mesta vidĆte nezabudnuteľnĆ© pohľady na vlny, ktorĆ© nabĆjajĆŗ do tejto skaly. V starom meste to žije typicky taliansky. NĆ”jdete tu mnohĆ© Ćŗzke uliÄky, vyveÅ”anĆ© prĆ”dlo a taktiež typickĆ© obytnĆ© domy. V tomto starom meste sme stretli veľa milĆ½ch ľudĆ, dali sme si chutnĆ© jedlo a kochali sa krĆ”sou ktorou dĆ½cha.
In Polignano, you will also find a restaurant carved into a rock. It's beautiful, but everyone can not have dinner in it, you need to make a reservation here. Also, if you would like to enjoy this restaurant, you need elegant clothes and shoes.
There are many other places that I like about here. Apulia is a truly beautiful region and if we have the opportunity to stay longer or come back, we will definitely choose Alberobello and Monopoli, which also have their tradition.
